KILLARNEY RACE COURSE - RACECOURSE HISTORY.
Racecourse History
It's no secret that Killarney, County Kerry, is one of the most beautiful places you will ever find. This stunning scenery has been the setting for many epic films and has long been one of Ireland's most popular holiday destinations. It also forms the perfect backdrop for the Killarney races, the life and soul of the party that is summertime in Killarney.
The first recorded race meetings in Killarney were in 1822 and from then to 1901 were run from two different courses in the area. A period of inactivity from 1901 to 1936 ended when the present course was opened. Since then it has become an integral part of the personality of the area.
Each of the 3 Summer Festivals staged at Killarney racecourse are action packed events both on and off the track and whether you're a serious punter or just feel like getting swept away in the sheer enjoyment of it all, there's something for everyone in Killarney.
